WhatsApp rolling out a new icon for community group chats with improved navigation for some users

WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a new icon for easier identification of community group chats along with improved navigation.

As reported by WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging app is rolling out a new icon for community group chats. The feature is available for Android beta testers and it comes with update version 2.23.9.17.

The above-mentioned beta version of WhatsApp introduced a community navigation feature to provide users with easier navigation and an improved experience to manage communities within the chats tab. The report also adds that after installing the update, the beta testers may be able to see a new icon to identify communities and it displays multiple icons, indicating that it is a community that includes some group chats.

You can find out if your WhatsApp account has received this feature simply by comparing the icon of one of the communities you are a part of with the one shown in our screenshot. In addition, many more users may be experimenting with improved community navigation among community group chats, which appears to be a necessary condition to get the new community icon.

WhatsApp rolled out Channels feature in India
Meanwhile, WhatsApp recently rolled out its Channels feature in India. In June this year, WhatsApp launched the Channels feature, drawing inspiration from Instagram, beginning with specific regions. Under the ownership of Meta, the platform has commenced a worldwide rollout of this feature, now extending its reach to India. According to the company, WhatsApp Channels offer a simple, dependable, and confidential method to receive crucial updates from both individuals and organizations within the WhatsApp ecosystem.

“We’re excited to launch WhatsApp Channels to over 150 countries and deliver a private way to receive updates that matter to you. We’re welcoming thousands of organizations, sports teams, artists, and thought leaders that people can follow, right within WhatsApp,” said the company in a blog post.
