This popular online gaming platform is coming to PS4, PS5 next month

Popular gaming platform Roblox will be coming to PS4 and PS5 consoles in October, the company announced at its 2023 Roblox Developers Conference (RDC). Roblox also announced a new conversational AI assistant that can help creators make experiences for the app.

Roblox is free to download on PC, Mac, iOS, Android and Xbox. According to the company, it has more than 65 million players who spend an average of 2.3 hours every day on Roblox. With the launch on Sony’s consoles, it could become one of the most popular gaming platforms globally.

In 2020 Roblox said (via Bloomberg) that two-thirds of all US children between the ages of nine and 12 play the game. Roblox is popular because it enables users to create their own games within it.

Roblox says that PlayStation players will be able to access “the full catalogue of Roblox experiences.”

Roblox on Switch
Now that Sony PlayStation will get Roblox, there remains only one major platform on which the popular platform is not available: Switch console.

“We want Roblox to be on all devices, anywhere around the world. At this time, we currently have no imminent plans to have Roblox available on the Nintendo Switch,” The Verge quoted company spokesperson Roman Skuratovskiy as saying.

However, CEO David Baszucki hinted in August during the earnings call that the company is looking to bring the app to Nintendo Switch. Baszucki, during the conference, also said that Roblox will be expanding to more places: “stay tuned, because there are more platforms to come.”

The company also opened up access for developers to create experiences for Roblox on Meta Quest.

Roblox AI chatbot
At RDC, the company also announced Assistant, its conversational AI chatbot that will be available in Roblox Studio and Creator Hub later this year.

“Assistant builds on the existing use of generative AI on Roblox, which simultaneously lowers the barrier to entry for new or less experienced creators, and enables more established creators to automate tedious, repetitive tasks and quickly scale their work,” the company said.

The Roblox Assistant will enable creators to generate virtual environments by typing in text prompts like they are used to generate other content like photos and articles in chatbots like ChatGPT and Google Bard.
