Apple launched its latest smartphone series, the iPhone 15 lineup, in September. It will be nearly a year’s wait before the Cupertino-based tech giant comes up with its next-generation smartphones. Yet, the rumour mill around the upcoming iPhone 16 is already up and running. A few details about the iPhones that are expected to launch in 2024 have already been leaked. These rumours suggest that Apple is planning to add a new button to the iPhone 16 models. For adding this button, the company may also change the positioning of the mmWave antenna in iPhones.
A tipster named Instant Digital has shared a few details about the iPhone 16 models on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. The leaker claims that there is a high chance of getting an additional button. To accommodate the change. Apple is also planning to relocate the mmWave antenna to the left of the device instead of the right.
Buttons on iPhone 16: What to expect
The Action Button on iPhone 16 Pro models is expected to remain unchanged. Apple is also expected to adopt the solid-state technology for this button. Currently, it comes with a standard button design.
However, it is important to note that these changes are expected only for the Action Button. Meanwhile, the volume rockers and the power keys are likely to remain the same with no changes. Currently, these buttons are also not solid-state, though Apple’s plans may change in the coming days.
A previous report by MacRumors also highlighted that an extra button is likely to come to the iPhone 16. As per the report, Apple is calling this button the “Capture Button” internally. However, it’s still not clear what exactly it will be used for. The button is expected to be located under the power button on the right side of the device. This button is also rumoured to be a capacitive button rather than a standard button.
The report also suggests that Apple may have to reposition the mmWave antenna to include this new button. The antennal is expected to be moved to the space under the volume buttons. The report also claimed that the new button is set to be introduced on all iPhone 16 smartphones, including the base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models.
